Sagrada Familia is one of the most famous artworks by Antoni Gaudi and is a famous art structure in Spain. Gaudi devoted the 43 years of his life building this magnificent basilica.

The church is still under construction and is estimated to be completed in 2026, on the 100th death anniversary of Gaudi.

Barcelona’s third cathedral

Sagrada Familia by Antoni Gaudi is the third largest cathedral in the city of Barcelona after the cathedral La Seu and Santa Maria del Mar, also known as the Cathedral of the Sea.

8 church towers — 109 to 175 m.

In 2026, when the church will be completed, it will have 18 towers, having unique symbols. The 12 towers represent the 12 apostles, the four towers represent the 4 Evangelists, the remaining two towers represent the Virgin Mary and Jesus.

The history behind the Church.

The Sagrada Familia church is located in the center of the city of Barcelona. It was planned to be in the center of the city. The distance of Sagrada Familia from the mountains is the same as that of the sea. Also the distance between the church and the river in the north, The Besos River is the same as the church and the river in the South, The Llobregat River.

However, the Government of Spain planned the route of new fast trains through the middle of Barcelona to attract more passengers. For the passage of the train, a tunnel is made just underground of Sagrada Familia. This makes the people of Barcelona afraid that it will affect the Church and there is a threat to the church on the passage of train right under the tunnel Sagrada Familia. But after the investigations and measurements, UNESCO shows that the Church and the underground of the church are strong enough to support the effects of the train.

Despite the Church is still to be completed, it makes a place in the UNESCO’s world heritage site list in 2005. Attracting millions of people, it is one of the most famous tourist sites not only in Barcelona and Spain but also in the world.

As it is one of the most crowded travel destinations sites in the world, It will be hard to get a ticket from the ticket counter due to long lines. So book Sagrada Familia online tickets to avoid the long ticket lines and fast entry access.
