The Sagrada Familia or Temple Expiry de la Sagrada Familia was initiated in 1882 from public membership. A year later Gowdy became director of the project, a position he held for more than 40 years until his death in 1926. After the completion of Parc Güell in 1911, he vowed that his architecture would not be devoted to secular purposes. His commitment to the project is indicated by the fact that he lived in a studio on site. “He was assisted by architects Burgengar, Rubio, Jujol, Caleta, and Raffles, and in the last phase, by Sugrens and Quintana; these last continued with work after his death in 1926, until the Nativity facade towers Were not completed.

History

Civil war continued under Quintana, Puig I Boda, and Bonnet Garry, with the help of Burgos, Martinell, and Dapena. In recent decades, it was Rdonr and bonnet Armengol architects Marguerite, Buisade, and Gomez (Kandel that went assisted by 87).

Work on the church continued based on Gowdy’s general plan and studies. Unlike many churches, it survived during the Spanish Civil War, when many churches were burned; It was seen as a symbol for the city of Barcelona. Although it is not the Church of Barcelona (dating back to the 13th century), it is sometimes called the Third Church of Barcelona.

Design

Sagrada Familia is still incomplete today (note the crane and scaffolding in the various photos below) and it is anyone’s guess as to when it will be completed. It is a combination of Modernista elements and is a unique version of the Gothic style — seen mainly in its height, using rose windows and arches, triple portals and architectural sculpture.

The church is in the shape of a Latin cross and has three facets, two similar to the arms of the cross, the Nativity facade and later the Passion facade. The third is located at the beginning of the main cave. This, the splendor mask is not complete. The Nativity Facade was built before work was interrupted in 1935 and was the most obvious Gaudi influence.

Nativity Facade

The mask of nativity seen here was completed earlier. The three portals of this aspect relate to Christian themes of faith, hope, and charity. Iconography supports the central dogma of the Catholic Church. Although biographical events are depicted, they are not necessarily in chronological order because themes are more important than sequence at any given time. See below for specific topics and events.

An estimated twelve spiers have been completed. (The four natal fronts were over before Gotti’s death.) These towers are over 100 meters high and symbolize the twelve apostles. The names and statues of the apostles sitting on pedestals appear on the towers.

The Pinnacles

The topmost peak of the towers is decorated with colorful mosaics with various textures. The words “Excelsis” and “Hosanna” are embedded in some pinnacles.
