The second most populous city in Spain and the capital city of Catalonia, Barcelona is one of the world-famous tourist attractions with its unique culture, language and traditions. There are various places to visit in Barcelona with over 8 million visitors attracted by Barcelona every year.

1.SAGRADA FAMILIA BASILICA

The largest unfinished Catholic church in the world, Sagrada Familia is the most visiting site in Barcelona. This Basilica is devoted to the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. The construction of this magnificent structure was started in 1882 based on plans drawn up by the famous architect Francisco de Paula del Villar. Antoni Gaudi continued the project in 1883 after Villar got retired. The basilica is built from the money collected from tickets purchased by tourists and donations. As Gaudi said: “The Expiatory Church of the Sagrada Familia is made by the people and is mirrored in them.” In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI designated the site as a basilica. The Sagrada Familia Basilica is now 75% complete and expected to be completed in 1926.

2.PARK GUELL

The Park Guell was inaugurated as a public park in 1926, is one of the most impressive parks in the world composed of gardens and architectonic elements. Located on the Carmel hill in Barcelona, Park Guell is among one of the masterpieces of Antoni Gaudi. He plan the project in 1900. In 1984, Park Guell was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This work of architect Antoni Gaudi preserves peaceful greens, winding paths and many sculptures designed by himself by Gaudi.

3.CASA MILA BUILDING

Casa Mila also is known as La Pedrera or “The stone quarry” is one of the modern buildings in Barcelona, Spain. It is also the artwork of famous architect Antoni Gaudi and was the last work designed by him. It was built between 1906 and 1912. In 1984 it was declared as one of the World Heritage sites by UNESCO. From 2013 Casa Mila is the headquarters of the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera Fundació which manages the visit to the exhibitions of building and other cultural and educational activities at Casa Mila.

4.CASA BATLLO BUILDING

Located in the centre of Barcelona, Casa Batllo is another masterpiece of the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi. Casa Batllo was previously a house and it is redesigned by Gaudi in 1904. It has been renovated and reconstructed several times after that. The renovation of the project was also contributed by Gaudi’s assistants Josep Canaleta and Joan Rubio. The Casa Batllo is popularly known as Casa dels ossos (House of Bones) among locals. The ground floor has flowing sculpted stonework and irregular oval windows. Facades are decorated with a colorful mosaic which is made up of broken ceramic tiles. It can be said that there is a rounded feature to the left of centre and terminator at the top in a turret and cross which represents the patron saint of Catalonia.
